Battlefield 6's Relaxed Game Mode Sparks Heated Debates Regarding Bots, Experience Points, and Queue Times

Over the weekend, the game developers introduced a new playlist called Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this option resembles the standard Breakthrough format but features several key changes:

  • Each team has just 8 human participants, with the remaining made up of 32 bots.
  • Activities done by real players award full XP, while AI activities offer reduced XP.
  • Just a pair of maps can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
  • Elements like Player tags, accolades, and stat tracking are disabled.

In short, the playlist delivers on its name: it offers a casual version of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think it's a good idea, as it gives additional choices for gamers seeking different methods to enjoy the title. However, gaming history have taught us anything, it's that not everyone will be happy. In other words, many Battlefield 6 players are mad.

Community Reactions: From Fury to Praise

"Gamers prefer human opponents. Don't repeat the errors of your rivals," states one reply to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking idea," says another. Meanwhile, in community forums, a player remarks, "It's unclear where we are headed with this game," while another details all the issues they believe to be problematic in the game: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this bot mode."

However, for every complaint, some gamers explaining how much they're liking the new mode. "It's very fun to practice, real players prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," says one Reddit comment. "This subreddit fails to see that there are gamers who have lives and don't play this title all the time. Let them find a middle ground," adds a different comment. A response via social media explains that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is perfect for me," and another applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Valid Criticisms and Player Input

Despite the support, there are valid points to criticize the new mode. Some users have highlighted that it could increase queue times even longer for other modes due to the large amount of options in the game already. On a similar note, some areas already encounter mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a minimum number of real players, despite it focuses mostly on combat against bots.

Lastly, a major complaints is that a previous feature was promised to offer full XP, even against bots, but that was removed when they attempted to remove XP farming from the mode. Thus this new playlist seems like the community meeting them halfway, as per a Reddit comment. A different user labels this mode as the developers "dropping the ball significantly, I had so much fun in the initial release, what prompted them to adjust it?"

Looking Ahead: Will Changes Be Made?

Should Battlefield Studios has proven anything to date with Battlefield 6, it's that they're paying attention and responding to player input. Assignments that were overly hard were adjusted very quickly, as did the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, should analytics shows this new playlist is underperforming to their standards, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
