GOP File Legal Challenge Opposing Boundary Changes Measure

Republicans in the state of California filed a federal lawsuit this Wednesday, challenging a significant redistricting measure that has the potential to flip up to five congressional seats to the benefit of Democrats.

Voter-Approved Proposition Grants Power to State Lawmakers

The measure, Proposition 50, was approved by voters on Tuesday evening, representing a clear win for Democrats. This arrangement grants on a temporary basis the power to delineate congressional districts to the California legislature, allowing it to approve district maps that are expected to assist the Democratic party gain five congressional seats in the House of Representatives.

Countermeasure to Gerrymandering in Texas

The plan is a direct response to gerrymandering in the state of Texas, where Republicans, at the US president’s behest, have carved out several new districts favoring Republicans.
