The Tottenham defender scored twice as Tottenham extended their winning streak in away games in the Premier League and delivered the Toffees their first defeat at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The Toffees were undefeated in their last five matches at their new ground at the dockside location, having departed their historic home behind after more than a century at the conclusion of last season.

But Tottenham's leader Van de Ven pounced twice from corners in the opening 45 minutes to put their impressive record at jeopardy, and they were failed to turn it around before Pape Matar Sarr - assisted by former Toffees attacker Richarlison - nodded in a third to seal the victory.

The Everton defender believed he had equalized the scores five minutes after the defender's opener, glancing a bullet header past Guglielmo Vicario from an Everton corner.

The Portuguese striker, in the meantime, failed to convert a number of opportunities, while Vicario made a series of excellent saves to guarantee the London club went five matches on the road without defeat in the Premier League.

But the VAR intervened, advising Craig Pawson to check the score on the screen and the official decided that Jack Grealish and the attacker were in offside positions and had interfered with the Spurs keeper.

The win elevates the manager's team up to third in the division, five points off local foes and table-toppers Arsenal.

The Merseyside club stay 14th and sit six points ahead of the relegation zone.

Spurs breakdown: The defender excels in duties at each end of pitch

Following a drab weekday performance in the European competition against the French side, where they managed a only attempts on target, Frank chose Randal Kolo Muani up front instead of ex-Everton forward the Brazilian.

The new arrival was unable to make much of an impact before being replaced for the substitute after 60 minutes on the field, but it turns out he proved unnecessary in the end.

Defender the Dutchman converted into an offensive threat to be feared.

Tottenham's first goal came from a well-worked corner routine, with the midfielder directing the ball toward the face of goal for an unmarked the defender to score.

And the captain - filling in as skipper in the Argentine's absence - notched his next goal in first-half stoppage time as he outjumped the England keeper to head home.

The Dutchman was equally impressive in defensive duties, partnering well with Kevin Danso as the duo handled superbly with the numerous deliveries sent their way by the opposition.

Toffees breakdown: Toffees lacking finishing touch

Everton's new home had been a fortress, but it appears the freshness may have faded somewhat and fans flocked to the exits after the midfielder's third for Spurs.

The break in Everton's winning streak at home won't be a major worry for the manager, but their striker situation will be.

The forward and Thierno Barry - the Everton's pair of established centre-forwards - had scored just one league goal combined before the weekend's outing.

And they were failed to contribute to that miserable record on a damp and dreary night on in Liverpool.

Beto's performance was epitomized when he opted to overhead kick a clear chance from near the goal, even with having room and opportunity to readjust for a more conventional shot that would have tested the keeper.

Barry, too, was unable to influence the game after replacing the starter in the second half.

It wasn't for a lack of opportunity. Most of the home side's offensive moves came through Grealish and Ndiaye, who relentlessly whipped threatening balls into the Spurs penalty area.

Everton: Moyes' men head to the Stadium of Light in the Premier League on early November at 8 PM.

Tottenham: The London club travel to St James' Park on Wednesday, 29 October for their next round Carabao Cup tie against the Magpies.
