New York Jets Head Coach Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After New York City Incident

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he recently spoke with defensive back Kris Boyd and believes the player will be OK after suffering a gunshot wound in midtown Manhattan early Sunday morning.

Glenn shared that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “positive” during their recent conversation.

“That gives me comfort, is that his mood is upbeat,” Glenn said Wednesday. “His family, they are doing well and he will walk away from this just fine.”

The coach did not know when Boyd could be discharged the medical facility, where he is reported as critical but stable.

“Don’t know just yet,” he added. “However, I can share, from our conversation, he seemed very positive. Once more, that reassures me, that he feels like that and he expresses himself so positively.”

New York police released video stills Monday of a man sought in the attack on the player. A motive for the shooting remains under investigation and officials stated it remains uncertain if Boyd was targeted. No one else was hurt according to reports.

The incident occurred in the early morning on Sunday morning in the area between the famous arena and the iconic square. Boyd, in his late twenties, was admitted to Bellevue Hospital after suffering a wound to the stomach, police said. The shooter fled the scene.

Glenn shared Boyd has been on his mind “constantly” since he heard about the shooting. He further stated that Boyd and his wife are new parents to a newborn.

“The first thing I thought about, he just had a kid,” Glenn said. “And I’m thinking about his wife, considering his child and I want to make sure that he’s OK. That was my main concern.
“There is a procedure involved, I’ll keep private, but It is reassuring that he will recover excellently.”

Boyd did not participate this season, after joining the team, after his season was cut short due to injury on 18 August with a shoulder injury that involved surgical repair.

He signed with New York as a free agent in March and was projected as a significant contributor of the team’s updated special teams under the coach and ST coordinator the special teams coach. But Boyd was injured during a training camp practice on August 2 and was carted from the field.

Boyd continued to be present all season long while healing from his surgery.

“He remains involved with our activities,” Glenn stated. “Certainly, he attends every game. He is completely involved. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he’s done a really good job of helping the other guys we have.”

Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, played his first four seasons with the Vikings after his selection in the later rounds by Minnesota out of UT in the 2019 draft. He signed with Arizona in 2023 and then joined Houston’s practice squad later that season. Boyd agreed to a one-year deal worth $1.6m with New York in March.
