Exactly 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story film was released, establishing Pixar as a leading animation studio and bringing audiences to beloved figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a glimpse into the plot but leaving viewers wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Toys

The preview shows Bonnie — who inherited Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a latest plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a carnival and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.

Certainly, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him show up in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with him. And where is Duke Caboom (the star)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the insignia pinned to her outfit.

Hopefully she is remains the key figure among the group.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
