Around twenty-five thousand households in southeastern Queensland were left experiencing outages on Monday's dawn after powerful weather events passed over the area, generating strong winds hitting 109km/h.

Massive Frozen Precipitation and Extensive Destruction

Residents observed large ice chunks reaching sizes of 7cm in some areas. Meteorological experts announced that multiple regions across Queensland had been impacted by significant hail.

Response teams were attempting to repair power throughout the affected regions, with dozens of response units working to handle the extensive power failures.

Southern State's Climate Difficulties

At the same time, around one thousand energy customers in Victoria also experienced energy failures after the metropolitan area recorded its heaviest rainfall in 18 months.

State Emergency Services responded to over five hundred emergency reports across the state, mainly for structural issues but also for collapsed vegetation and water accumulation.

• Werribee region - experienced considerable weather impact
• Hoppers Crossing - various assistance requests
• Wyndham region - over 175 emergency requests

At the height on the previous day, over 28k energy customers in the state were lacking electricity.

Meteorological Predictions

Damp conditions were expected to linger along significant areas of Queensland's east this next several days as a low-pressure trough continued to pull in damp air against the coastal areas.

The following day was expected to become the most rainy day, with persistent thunderstorm potential expected across different parts of both areas.

Safety Concern

Public health experts warned that there was an higher risk of epidemic thunderstorm asthma across the countryside regions, particularly given the existing atmospheric conditions.

This alert comes after previous incidents where similar conditions led to major medical consequences in the region.
