Vince Gilligan Reveals He Has an Idea of How Pluribus Will End... Currently.

Vince Gilligan could not have predicted that Pluribus would turn into a massive hit. “The viewers have been incredible,” Gilligan says. “I did not foresee the show being as passionately debated as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”

As the debut season of the acclaimed sci-fi show coming to an end—and Season 2 greenlit and underway—Gilligan and his team reflected on the fan response and whether it will shape the future direction of Pluribus.

Regarding the Tremendous Audience Reaction

It would be easy to get sidetracked by the rampant praise and audience predictions surrounding Pluribus. The creator is striving to ignore the noise.

“The experience is akin to an endless supply of your favorite dessert and being in a state of bliss,” he explains. “It's amazing, but I learn of it anecdotally, and that's intentional. Never in my life looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever intend to. It's quite the opposite. It's a rabbit hole I know I would fall into and then I'd be living in squalor from Home Depot and I'd never leave my living room.”

In spite of trying to stay away, there’s it's impossible to ignore the immensely favorable response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to take it in stride and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“It is not our goal to change the plot,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not changed by audience chatter.”

“It's wiser to keep our focus on the work,” Gilligan concludes.

The Big Question: Does the creator Have a Plan for the Conclusion of Pluribus?

Considering the creative staff are not listening by fan response, does that mean they have mapped out how Pluribus will finally conclude? The answer is yes… with some caveats.

“We've developed some interesting ideas about how the story could conclude,” he states. “yet we stand ready to discard a solid concept for a better idea. That philosophy has guided us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we find a more perfect path and I suspect we'll be doing that.”

Then again, if they hit a wall, executive producer Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to serve as a last resort.

“I constantly suggest that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and the characters are inside it,” Smith jokes, “but no one is buying it.”

Then again, one could always use the legendary finales?

“I'd love for Carol to awaken next to Bob Newhart,” Gilligan adds, smiling.

Pluribus is currently available on Apple TV+.
