One extended cruise around the Land Down Under is being halted following the death of an older lady who was abandoned by the ship on a isolated island.

The passenger had been hiking on the tropical location with shipmates from the cruise ship, but separated from the party for a break. The ship sailed away leaving her and went back several hours later after the crew realised the lady was unaccounted for.

A large-scale search operation located her person the following day.

Authorities are investigating the tragedy, alongside investigators and the state coroner.

The CEO of the shipping company said that guests and personnel on the ship were notified that the continuation of the cruise had been cancelled due to the "sad loss and previous engine troubles".
